Well, it is true, but it's not really a situation we should be making light of. Lisa needs our help. She needs to understand that what she did was wrong and confront her feelings about it. Only then will she begin the path to mental and spiritual health.

At which point can a fetus be considered to be a child? That's a question that's been asked over and over again not only since the recent move the government has made towards the legalization of abortion but all over the world, in every country where this issue has arisen. Some people believe that life begins at conception, some people believe that it's later, but as James Randi once said "No amount of belief makes something a fact." So, what exactly are the facts?
The scientific side
The most prominent question asked is that of the consciousness of the fetus, is it aware of its existence and would aborting it be comparable to the murder of a child who's been born? Well, according to the numerous studies done, No, it's not. A fetus' brain only starts to emit electrical signals at 12 weeks, and the EGGs recorded are comparable to that of a sea slug according to the eminent neuroscience researcher Micheal Gazzaniga in his book, "The ethical brain". A fetus only develops its cerebral cortex, the part of the brain which regulates thought and consciousness at 24 weeks, well after the limit for abortions. Before 24 weeks, its brain only emits electrical signals, not brain waves which indicate thought.
The other question often asked is whether a fetus can feel pain. Till date, there has been no definite consensus but in 2010, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said in a scientific report, Fetal Awareness - Review of Research and Recommendations for Practice, that "Current research shows that the sensory structures are not developed or specialized enough to respond to pain in a fetus of less than 24 weeks", pg. 22. Simply put, a fetus before 24 weeks lacks the physical capacity to feel pain and that is the current generally- accepted scientific hypothesis.
In the US, when the supreme count legalized abortion in the famous Roe v. Wade case, they
stated that a woman had the right to abort until the viability of the fetus, that is until the time at which the fetus would be able to survive outside of the woman's womb, even with artificial aid, and that was placed at 24 weeks. Before this period, the fetus is wholly dependent on the woman's body. No matter how loudly people may say that the fetus does not belong to the mother, the fact is that it's in her body that it will implant itself, it's using her blood that it will nourish itself and it's her organs which it will push aside to grow, so what right do we have to force a woman to carry it inside her body again her will for so many months?
So, if scientific facts show that a fetus cannot be deemed a person before the third trimester of pregnancy, can we put the rights of the fetus over that of a woman to choose whether to allow her body to be used by the fetus?
People have the right to believe what they want but they do not have the right to impose their beliefs on others. The right to choose is the mother's, not anyone's else.
