Let's be a bit fair to Kent. He probably has a radio tuned to Limbaugh or Jones. And a TV full of Faux Friends and Hannity reruns. His entire social life is probably centred around Republican friends at an evangelical place of worship where he is actively fed misinformation regarding those Demon Democrats. Beto could probably shine with a divine aura like the Old Testament prophets and he would still be labelled a bit liberal.

The battle is not to turn the cultists head, but to get the undecided and the apathetic to enrol and then vote in the midterms. If the MAGA drones are motivated (and nothing gets them wetter than appointing sketchy probusiness anti-abortion judge to the SC for life) then the race will probably be tight.
