I was born in 1954, Hitler had been dead a long time, and I was in the middle of the baby boom generation. I had an uncle who survived Auschwitz by being a mole for them, he was the only jew in the family actually interred in the camps and he survived. My understanding is, that's part of what made him so unique. He figured out a way to survive.
