im presently recovering from a super bowl party in the great city of new orleans.. i had very local new orleans cuisine such as papa johns pizza and wings.

In seminary, we learned about the major demons of the Mesopotamian, Babylonian, and Persian people. Chemosh, Dagon, Moloch, Ishtar, etc..
A long period of one class session dealt with how Moloch's worshipers brought their children to his statue, which was a totem made of metal with outstretched arms. The arms were heated, like a forge, and they would throw their infants into his arms.
This may or may not be true. We may or may not have the archaeological evidence to prove it. However, the two cents I'd like to throw in here is this:
Even in today's modern world, the easiest way to gain support is to rally people against something else... to demonize it, if you will.
I wonder exactly how much of the reputation of the demons of the ancient world were only due to the monotheists of the day trying to make their own gods look better. How much knowledge has been lost due to this?
