I do like how they kept the intro close to the original

uh yeah he did, in Amok Time the classic episode where kirk fights spock in the vulcan wedding ceremony with those big American Gladiator blade weapppons

also in Star Trek 3 when he was resurrected as a boy he went through it though he was mindless since he didn't have his katra so it's arguable it wasn't tehcnically Spock at that point
