I bought 2 MacBook pro 2011 13" and maxed them out to 8gb + 500gb SSD.
What's the last year that's possible, before flip chip Ram and soldered on m.3 drives?

Anything pre-retina I believe. You may already have the last model, the timespan sounds about right.
thx
I have an early 2011, can't upgrade it to mojave. debating whether it's worth building a hackintosh, I'm going to miss the touchpad.
I'm trying to buy Intel Mac towers. I love that architecture. I maxed out 3 with 64gb Ram and filled all 4 HDD bays + SSD boot for the graphics studio at work and added video cards with external power supplies
great project t and about 700 bucks upgrade per. they're capable of 4k video now
do they even offer a tower since they scrapped the Xserv?
there's a cylindrical weird thing which I would never buy, buy the properly modular ones are coming bavk
best machine ever was the mac mini, I miss tjose
mac mini is still available, it just hasn't had a hardware refresh in like 4 years
these were the machines I was working on. Main thing was getting a non mac flashed GeForce card working and adding external power for that card

3.5GHz 6-core with 12MB of L3 cache
16GB (4 x 4GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC
Dual AMD FirePro D500 GPUs with 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM each
256GB PCIe-based SSD
~$2500
I may get one just to mess with it, but not for work. Just personal use
Stevey could use that money a lot more than you need it
he would just buy steam games with it, unless i'm doing it for work, i'm buying stuff, refurbing it and selling it
