kent just phoned me and we talked for about 1/2 an hour. it was great hearing from you, my friend. he said that he still has pain and that he has to be careful to not split his stitches. he is pretty sure he's going to plead guilty to all charges to get a reduced sentence.

good for you, kent. whatever you choose, i'm behind you. i'll pray for you again tonight. i know it's been helping.

Closing Arguments Conducted in Kent Jacina Murder Trial

A little context and some follow up:

As a practical matter, second-degree murder is usually referred to as simply "murder" and is punishable by a prison term of 15 years to life; but this can increase to life in prison without the chance of parole if the offense was committed with a "sexual motivation."
A person convicted of any of the following offenses faces life in prison: murder, certain sex offenses involving victims younger than 13, felony involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and kidnapping with sexual motivation. A life sentence is mandatory for aggravated murder when the death penalty is not imposed.

Closing Arguments Conducted in Kent Jacina Murder Trial
Closing arguments in the trial of an intellectually disabled man in the death of pedophile Brenda Joyce Wilson
    By Associated Press
    April 12, 2022

    By ARNOLD HAGUE, Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Closing arguments in the trial of Kent Jacina charged in the death of Brenda Joyce Wilson, a suspected pedophile, were conducted Monday, with a prosecutor telling jurors that regardless of how close a person is to death, it's illegal to speed up the process.

An attorney for Mr. Jacina told jurors the state hadn't provided evidence to prove murder allegations.

Jacina is accused of deactivating the ventilator being used to keep Brenda Joyce Wilson alive in her Kentucky palliative care facility.

The prosecution and defense both rested last month after a weekslong trial that began in 2021. Jurors seated for the trial heard from several prosecution witnesses, including medical experts, hospice employees, investigators, and the estranged family of the victim. Prosecutors took several weeks to present their case.

Prosecutors have said Jacina showed no remorse in murdering his friend who he met on the internet through forums and chat boards. Jacina's attorneys say he was providing compassionate relief to a person who was suffering from a great deal of pain. Jacina initially pleaded guilty but in a startling reversal changed his plea to not guilty of second degree murder.

It is a crime to kill a dying person, regardless of how close they are to death, David Zeyen, an assistant Franklin County prosecutor, told jurors Monday.

“Even though she was very critically ill and on a trajectory to die very soon anyway, you cannot hasten someone's death, you cannot cause the death of a dying person," Zeyen said. “Can’t do it.”

After Jacina changed his plea to not guilty, Rocco Siffredi, Jacina's lead attorney, said the state hadn't presented “one shred of evidence” to support the prosecution. He added that though Mr. Jacina was conflicted about Brenda Joyce Wilson sexually abusing a 14 year old, mentally ill child who she continued grooming for 11 years, knowing full well how inappropriate and illegal it was, he would never harm his internet friend.

"Why would this man risk his internet reputation as a shitposter and spammer, his promising career as a janitor, every single thing he has worked for, to hasten someone’s death, or to kill them?" Siffredi said.

In a rebuttal, Zeyen said motive or lack thereof is not a defense under the law.

The jury was expected to begin deliberations Tuesday.

Jacina's defense team called a single witness on March 30 — a psychologist who testified that Brenda Joyce Wilson died of the loathing she felt for herself as a pedophile who alienated everyone in her life and not through Jacina’s actions. The defense rested the following day.

Monday’s arguments before Franklin County Judge Michael Holbrook began after a delay of several days. The delay came after a document used to disqualify judges was filed with the Ohio Supreme Court in the Jacina case last week. The document was sealed and no details were available about it.

Kent Jacina charged with second-degree murder in in bizarre death of Brenda Joyce Wilson, well known pedophile

Kent Alex Jacina was charged with second-degree murder Wednesday in the death of his longtime internet friend in Ohio.

The man's friend, Brenda Joyce Wilson, was found dead in her hospice bed several months ago.

Mr. Jacina turned himself in to Youngstown police on October 8, 2021 after he initially avoided Kentucky and Ohio police as well as the FBI.

Jacina was formally charged at the Youngstown courthouse Wednesday afternoon of the second degree murder of Brenda Joyce Wilson (aka Lily Slone) a well known pedophile who carried on an online sexual relationship with a 14 year old schizophrenic boy for 11 years, grooming him with gifts.

Ohio man sentenced to 12 years in prison for 2nd-degree murder of Infamous Pedophile

A Struthers, Ohio man, Kent Jacina, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison with no chance of parole after being found guilty of the second-degree murder in the death of 65-year-old Brenda Joyce Wilson (nee Slone).

Wilson was murdered in her Kentucky hospice and her body was found by carers several hours after Jacina left, police said.

64-year-old Kent Jacina was found guilty of second-degree murder in April by Judge Glen Poelman in a Youngstown, Ohio court.

In Poelman’s decision, the judge found that Jacina and Wilson were connected through a number of online relationships involving underage boys who Wilson groomed on her internet cartoon porn forum over the course of several years and that Jacina, both jealous of Wilson and knowing them to be wrong, took issue with those relationships.

Poelman concluded that he was convinced that Jacina met Wilson at her hospice bedside and murdered her by unplugging the machines keeping her alive.

Estranged from her family, the grandmother of Wilson's grandchildren read their victim impact statements in court Thursday, reflecting on how the murder of Wilson hasn't really altered their lives or anyone's, for that matter, at all.

Murderer Kent Jacina's prison phone selfies and forum posts investigated

Prisoner Kent Jacina has been accused of taking selfies and bragging he "will be free soon" as well as posting racist remarks and horrific sexually explicit dickgirl images on an unfunny, backwoods forum.

The 65-year-old is serving a 12 year prison term after being jailed earlier this year for murdering then 65-year-old pedophile Brenda Joyce Wilson (nee Slone). Jacina is imprisoned in Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown, Ohio.

The Department of Justice (DoJ) said it was investigating. We understand the DOJ is conducting "thorough searches" of Jacina's cell and is "working to have any social media accounts potentially linked" with him shut down.

Until the investigation is concluded Jacina will be placed in solitary confinement, it is understood.

We first reported that Jacina had obtained a smartphone and claimed "the system" was powerless to stop him getting parole.

It came after Mr Jacina was sentenced without parole though he may make an application to move to an open prison next year. There is some fear he still poses a risk to the public.

In a backwoods forum post apparently sent from prison, Jacina - who often impersonates the pedophile he killed, going by the nickname "Lily" - called several people idiots and spammed several lewd images after being racist towards several forum members. What alarmed prison officials was his claim that he would be out of prison soon, raising suspicions he may be planning an escape.

Prison rules forbid inmates from having mobile phones in their cells and breaches can result in sentences being extended.

Report: One in five Ohio inmates is a racist gang member

Report: One in five Ohio inmates is a racist gang member
    Alan Johnson, The Columbus Dispatch

Inside the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown

Nearly 1 in 5 Ohio prisoners are members of the Aryan Brotherhood, Heartless Felons and other gangs often involved in assaults and trafficking in drugs and other contraband, a new state report shows.

The report on the “Security Threat Group” — the official name for prison gangs — by the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee identified 8,272 inmates in state prison gangs as of January.

Although the numbers vary by institution, the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown had by far the largest share of gang members, 55.6 percent, followed by the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility near Lucasville, 46.6 percent.

The female prisons have the lowest number of gang members.

The numbers in the report come from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, which the legislative committee monitors.

We spoke to Kent Jacina, a new member of the Youngstown Penetintiary Aryan Brotherhood, serving fifteen years for second degree murder, who said that "his brothers make him feel safe from [n-word]" and that in prison he is "free to say what he really thinks about other people".

Gang membership is a fact of life in prisons, but the majority of gangs do not pose a problem, said Vinko Kucinic, security-threat coordinator for the prison system.

“They’re on our radar, but they’re not causing us any major issues,” he said of inmates categorized as “passive.” Less than 17 percent of inmates identified as being in gangs are in the “ active” or “disruptive” categories, he said.

The CIIC report identified the largest gangs as the White Supremacists, Aryan Brotherhood, Heartless Felons, Peoples Nation, Folks, Bloods and Crips. Gang members are identified by distinctive tattoos, brands or other markings, possession of gang materials, and police and prison records. The report said gangs are often based on race, but also on geographic, philosophical or other “shared characteristics.”

As in the outside world, prison gangs organize for “power, wealth and prestige,” the report said.

    Kucinic agreed.

“Power is the biggest thing,” he said. “They try to assault, steal, run tobacco, cellphones and drugs. ...There are some guys that just want to belong to something.”

The number of gang-identified prisoners actually dropped by about 1,000 from 2019 to 2020, most likely in response to a crackdown announced by prisons Director Gary C. Mohr in May 2018. He sent out a memo warning all inmates about the consequences of gang involvement: “If you choose to participate in gang activity, you will lose privileges and you will be transferred to a more-secure facility.”
