Plug Drugs please tell me how I should edit config.sys to set the com port for a soundblaster 16

i recently ran across a paper that i wrote in high school science class for how to program your pc (commodore 64) to calculate someone's age by entering their DOB and the current date. I got an A+

i can think of plenty of arguments against a touch device:
- a finger is a fat 3 dimensional object, not a stylus, and tends to hit many points on the grid simultaneously, causing unintentional results
- by having to touch a region of the screen, you have to move your finger and consequently your entire hand in the way of the screen, blocking your view of the screen

therefore, mouse & keyboard will always be superior in some way - the cream will rise to the top baby

It's on the metro menu which replaced the start menu, it's no harder or less intuitive than it was before and in fact may be more intuitive because you don't even need to click anything to make that menu come up

The same applies though: casual users are only going to do what is immediately conveyable to them. If you put shit in random counter-intuitive places, most casual users are going to just do their best to live without using it, and only use shit like IE to check facebook, etc.. and never learn more about their computer

Keep telling yourself that.
First of all, there's more than one way to skin a cat. Second of all, if someone changed all the characters to random Chinese symbols, rearranged all the keys on the keyboard which would also be in chinese, then you'd be completely lost and you know it.

You have neither the inclination nor the ability to learn DOS, if you were the power user you like to pretend that you are you'd already know it. I'll bet you don't even know how to add a snap-in to the MMC.
When I want to or have to, I can learn it to the extent I need to to get it to do what I need it to do. If I can use it to my benefit, then that's all that counts

Everything in DOS is incredibly basic; why bother learning it unless I'm using it for something. As an example, I had to set up a static IP to host games, I figured out how to do that with written instructions.

Also, I am not criticizing those people beneath me, rather I am defending them; I want it to be as easy as possible for those people to be able to learn about computers so they do become smarter about computers - that can't happen if there's some leech stacking the cards against them.

maks

I agree, as a basic home user who doesn't know shit there's no reason for you to ever touch the command line. You're in here posing as a power user, denouncing anyone who isn't as computer literate as you, anyone with that attitude should at least know how to use the fucking shell.

There's no reason for me to ever touch the command line? Lol, it's saved me from countless viruses, I use it to be able to host games, blah blah blah.
I think the real reason you're so defensive is because you don't like feeling like your trade isn't special or unique.

I can do all sorts of shit on a computer that a lot of my peers are clueless about. Me and my best friends in highschool were the "computer guys"; we were the guys showing everyone how to get on game sites in the computer labs using proxies; sending messages to every computer in the school simultaneously using the command line; playing N64 games in the computer lab with emulators on flash drives; when we took webpage design and the other kids were having brain farts over the concept of an HTML tag, we were showing the teacher javascript. blah blah blah

I am working my way through studying Qabbalah, and learning Tarot in order to complete the correlation between the two, which I have been told is of the utmost importance for a complete understanding of either and for the work as a whole.
I Ching has been my divinatory companion for 10 years but Tarot seems to hold a more comprehensive and complex symbolic framework as well as more vivid archetypal imagery, not to mention an invaluable companion to the whole Kabbalistic system, which the more I study the more fills in the gaps that I have been unable to fill in my work.
I have several works and magical formulae that are unfinished, the basis for a zodiac/calendar sort of thing, an article or two in the works. Need to find a group to join and a temple or something. I don't groove with the OTO, although Thelema is very appealing and I self identify to an extent I don't really like reading Crowley. I was thinking about joining the local Rosicrucian lodge, still have yet to find the time to go check them out. But I definitely need a group, and a temple. I guess that is next. Kabbalah, Tarot, group, temple, and finish reading Initiation into Hermetics by Franz Barden. Good stuff in there, I think that once I get these things rolling I will enter a new phase in my work.
