just map a drive, windows tends to break on URIs

smb:// was what I remember using and I tried that and it didn't work
for what it's worth you can also do \\servername\sharename in windows but I wouldn't expect it to be reliable at all there's lots of opportunities for 'holy fuck why are you asking me for credentials again I never even disconnected'
always click save credentials or login to a domain

To access your network share
To access your network share use your username (<user_name>) and password through the path "smb://<HOST_IP_OR_NAME>/<folder_name>/" (Linux users) or "\\<HOST_IP_OR_NAME>\<folder_name>\" (Windows users). Note that "<folder_name>" value is passed in "[<folder_name>]", in other words, the share name you entered in "/etc/samba/smb.conf".

see this is the thing. this guy insists on running ubuntu off of a cd (god knows what version he has) and he can't do any apt-get nothing. fucking annoying and he wants to access a samba share. i told him i'll make him bootable usb key with exactly what he has on the cd, buthe won't let me touch it and he wants to do it himself
