the .net runtime isn't a problem, I install it once and it's updated by the same windows update that patches everything else, and it doesn't bitch at my users 20 times a day to update it like fucking java and fucking flash, so they don't come to me 20 times a day asking what they should do even though I already told them never update anything
newer things like chrome etc, are evergreen and auto update you never see it, it should be seamless and you should not have to install plug ins or runtimes anymore, nobody does it anymore because of malware
you can slip stream the net runtime into your installer as well
yeah but every time i install a steam game i have to set up the directx and the dotnet framework all over again i dont trust it why doesnt it know i already have the right version
also everything up to .net 4.5 is already bundled with windows 8
one of the steam devs answered this in an interview a few years ago it's basically because they're too lazy to check first they just install everything the game dev gives themQuote:
