nah, don't backtrack. you commented that a genuine display of affection between two friends of 15 years was sycophantic, like friendship is some sort of power struggle. if your perception of interpersonal relationships is that far into left field, it actually explains a lot, like why you don't have any friends, and why you don't get along with your family.
