there is no foolproof copy protection
i have simsuite pro, at college they told us it cost almost $200,000 per license and there was a dongle you had to connect to your parallel port for it to run. the cracked version just emulates the dongle as a mounted virtual device

you never know when you might need to design a gashouse, refinery, etc in a pinch

worst case scenario you get ahold of a machine where it was intsalled legitimately, clone the drive, stick it in a new box and pull out the network cable
