did open it in a hex editor and cmd-f the version number
tim and elezzzark say that it crashes when people enter the nether:
did anyone move a nether portal? there's a bug reported aug 24 where doing that crashes the server (confirmed bug in this version): https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-69237
