Strong border doesn't mean the wall. They really need more control than fences of ignorance, more control is supposed to track down the smugglers and human traffickers as origins of the problems. When you say no need to detain people is open border.

what i've done is pragmatically looked at the immigration debate and surrounding variables, found a way to offer both sides concessions, cultivated a win/win and obscured one side from wining more than the other. meanwhile you cry about some fantasy dictator as the nation prospers under trump.
