The Volkswagen Golf gets very good mileage (especially the TDI) and is pretty reliable and is comfortable for such a small car. I highly recommend it.
Also heated seats fucking rock but might not be necessary so far south
they're not necessary anywhere, because i don't like them and didn't use them even in new england
and at the same time in a TDI car they're necessary everywhere, because a diesel engine does not heat the cabin at idle
