they need to ask for an extension and have it approved before the due date or penalties such as 10% a day apply

extensions are gay. 10% a day is too lenient. 20% for one day, 50 beyond that, 0 after a week. Fuck em.

tell them that if they give you gift cards along with the late assignment there is no penalty. it's just a bribe there's nothing wrong with that.

late policy:
- if ur late by a day, thats an NEDM. you have to make a ytmnd with the NEDM cat and the nedm nt even doom music sound track playeing in the back ground,
- if ur late by a weke, well thats a spath, you have to say spath out load in front of the whole class.

No but you need to be flexible and don't forget your job is to try and get everyone over the line, if they all earn A's because you taught the subject matter so well that they all fully understood it then great yeah but people with these stupid things called lives need extensions for all kinds of reasons and MOST of those reasons are actually valid.
I'm just saying that 10% a day is a pretty common across the board penalty for late work that hasn't had an extension approved, and allowing for extensions is usually just part and parcel of managing teaching. Make it official and even handed as you can, make simple extension requests forms, make the penalties for late work clear and defined and in writing and be prepared to be flexible as well for special circumstances. Have a form to apply for 'special consideration' too to cover for any who might fall through the cracks but are retrievable.
I'm a fully qualified teacher with a few years experience. You asked. Take it or leave it. It's YOUR class. Just offering some insight from my experience.Last edited by LadyKillmonger; 09-30-2013 at 03:33 PM.

one of the suggested late policies was to just give everything that's late an instant zero
my girlfriend's English teacher gave her a zero on an assignment because she didn't have it completely finished when she got to class, he wouldnt even take what she had done and yet he still made her turn it in because it was part of a larger project even though she got no points for that particular phase of it
