They spoke loudly on purpose so I could hear their conversation. “Look at her eyes. It’s so obvious she’s asian.” “Yeah, its so obvious when she looks down.” Then a girl chimed in. “Ha ha. Asian.” As if being asian was inherently funny. As if it was something to be laughed at. I felt so ugly and disgusting. This was perhaps one of the more offensive moments during my childhood.
