I moved to rural South Dakota at the beginning of March, temporarily for two months, for a job, and I'll be damned if the internet isn't absolute shit. About half the time I can't play online games because my ping to any server is 1000 or MORE.
It's shared between 4 other people in the crew house I live it, but I guarantee that's not the problem. Certain times everyone has problems getting bandwidth, and even loading simple webpages is a struggle.
I can't wait until this job is over and I can get back to stable 'net.

Nah, I'm in Eastern SD, and right now we're in the middle of an ice storm.
I'm pretty sure it's DSL, actually, and latency can be a bit of a bitch most times.

It's not super bad yet, but as it gets colder the ice is starting to accumulate more. And it's supposed to snow tomorrow, so hopefully trees don't start coming down.

Although if they do, maybe my crew can go out and work as a saw resource, we're not doing any burn work at the moment anyway lol.

i was way up north at the end of jan guiding some local dumbass natives cutting line and they dropped a tree on one of their friends and snapped his femur lol

which on thee whole is odd because cold is supposed to increase conductive ability

in a closed systems setting it does, but there are other factors at work here such as the wires swinging in the wind in a cold dry environments therefore creating static frequencies, and possibly lines going down forcing traffic to be rerouted through already bogged down nodes.

DSL is fucky unless in a heavily networked urban setting with lots of nodes and short lines.
