i did it to learn about the amazon cloud and because i was working with a company that was developing an opensource management tool for amazon aws

it's fucking awesome, you tell it what kind fo virtual machine you want and set up teh domain and everything, you get QoS, really great modular interface

so you tell it you want linux or whatever and run it on free cpu cycles and that's what that server was
did the same for many other game servers from steam
