a straight razor does work the best, but you have to sharpen and strop them. a lot of people dont know how to maintain a hollow ground blade, it goes dull, and they cant get it back

My grandpa had this really cool automatic stropping machine for the original single bladed "safety" razors that flipped the blade ever 5 revolutions or so

I paid the extra 10 bucks for a straight razor shave once and yes it was comfortable and close but it's a little unnerving after youve seen so many movies like i have to have some guy using something that sharp on you without a PHD
