I heard some yelling and I went outside, and I could hear a guy screaming "HELP!" so I ran down the driveway and I saw a flashing light next to the letterbox and the guy was laying there screaming flashing a light so I ran up to him and there was blood everywhere and I consoled him and put my hand on the wound on his back to put pressure on it to help stop the bleeding and there was a pool of blood under me and another neighbour came out and was calling the police and another came out and got me a towel so I used the towel to put the pressure on it then the police came after about 10 mins but were just asking questions and then another 5 mins later the ambulance came so I let them take over

and then the police got our names and numbers and where we came from, which flat and then I came inside now and washed my hands and put my coat in the wash because they were covered in blood

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a burglary and stabbing incident which occurred at Cowes last night.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, returned to his home address in Douglas Street and disturbed a burglar around 8.50pm.

The burglar ran from the house, jumping over several back fences in his attempt to flee the scene.

The victim gave chase and confronted the intruder outside a nearby address.

A struggle took place between the two, with the victim sustaining a stab wound in his lower back.

The intruder fled leaving the victim to make his way back to his address where police were notified.

The victim was transported to the Dandenong hospital with serious injuries.

Police are investigating if the incident is linked to another burglary which was committed on a neighbouring property.
