the intro to stairway to heaven is actually fairly difficult. Most guitar books are either going to start you off on major/minor scales or the blues. The first riff you'll learn will usually be 12 bar blues, which sounds like this:

(and yes, that sounds like "that one song on the radio") its 12 bar blues its been the skeleton for loads of fucking songs over the years
