why we can't be immortal:
we're not meant to live forever; if we did, our will would break down into total nihilism because the only reason we feel any sense of meaning at all in anything is because we are constantly avoiding death. If we didn't have to avoid death, we would feel no pain, but consequently we would also feel no pleasure.
