centos is literally identical to RHEL -- minus support, and with a slightly dated package tree.

centos is to RHEL as debian is to ubuntu, the only difference being:

1. debian came first, and was always stable, where ubuntu is more bleeding edge shit for enthusiastic high school losers

2. redhat came first, and was absolute shit that took its time getting it together, and had to go corporate and start bringing in money to stay competitive, where centos thereafter could fulfill a F/OSS role that benefits from that paid work
