it's a stereotype and if you never heard of it before it probably doesn't even exist in australia so just buy the car you like. the golf convertible looks more like a saab than a cabriolet anyway

probably also helps if you don't get drunk with a friend who thinks that just because he's really good at need 4 speed he can do 70 on twisty backroads in a 4 cylinder grocery getter. my neck is still all fucked up from that crash.
