    codeine is pretty weak, and it has a ceiling dose (a dose that once you reach, taking more won't do anything). I'm confident I could take a ceiling dose of codeine right now and not feel a thing - its approximately 400mg of codeine

    The reason it has a ceiling dose is because codeine itself is inactive as an opiate, it has to be metabolized into morphine in the liver in order to have any effects, and your liver only has so much of the enzyme which metabolizes it into morphine
