    Marriage was a way to force the concept of love down our throats after it essentially died with Christ
    And for most people, for the longest time, it did more good than harm. now it may really not be needed at our point in social evolution, marriage may be going the way of the nuclear family and the dodo, but in reality marriage will become an indicator of status, with welathy people more likely to be married - particularly with many spouses over a lifetime, all for relatively short amounts of time.
