I'm actually surprised that you can't open the door on the machine when its running.

Like I'm torn between the logic of having a Laundromat machine that you can open while running, and one that locks when it starts.

Since lots of people just leave the laundromat when they start a machine to do other shit, it would make sense to keep people from stealing your shit. Then this video presents a much clearer hazard, which shouldn't ever have to be take into consideration but people are fucking colossally stupid.
