the first step with any mac problem ever is to open disk utility and 'repair permissions', apparently the permissions on the hfs+ filesystem get fucked up really bad all the time

depends on the machine. macbooks and imacs, yeah, they're overpriced for the components you get, but the macbook pro is about the same price as any other high end "premium" laptop. quality matters, a mac will work better for longer which reduces the total cost of ownership not to mention the hassles of running windows or linux.

it's like buying a mercedes except you don't have a thousand idiots going "DURRR YOU COULD HAVE GOTTEN A HYUNDAI OR KIA FOR HALF THE PRICE AND THEY BOTH ARE AUTOMOBILES TOO"

my macbook pro I bought in 2005 is still going strong, in fact it runs better than my i7 macbook pro because snow leopard was better than lion and mountain lion in every single way

the pc i'm on is 8 years old but i've spent the last 3 complaining about how it can't keep up and i should get a new one

though i probably won't replace it until it stops working entirely
