There is a rush, a "high", if you will, to cheating death. Part of it is egotistical, knowing you can do something that nobody else can. But the pleasure still lasts through those long, lonely periods when there are no witnesses to your greatness. The pleasure then is purely internalized; the immortal not only takes pride in his longevity, but also in his independence from those secondary emotions that are merely products of interactions with lesser beings.
