the republicans are actually admitting that if they can't hold the economy hostage to de-fund obamacare then it will never be gotten rid of because too many americans will use it, just like medicare, medicaid and social security. what i don't get is that they must realize they have little to no hope of strongarming obamacare out of existence like this, and will just come off as anti-american.

this shutdown fiasco could very well be the end of the republican party which scares the shit out of me, because as much as i detest the GOP i'd still rather have some of them in government rather than any kind of single-party governemnt

the healthcare system in america is fucked because of government intervention in the first place HMOs ruined market competition for everybody when it comes to insurance and as for actual procedures the AMA has done a fantastic job of cartelization so that now they can ask any price they want and you'll pay it while simultaneously blaming the republican party (somehow) for such high prices

meanwhile what the democrats are trying to get right now is for even higher prices to be paid, both for prescription medicines and procedures, only not paid by the actual patient, but instead by the government instead aka single-payer aka the soviet socialist healthcare system aka rationing care
