if i need back surgery i can use my employer's insurance plan and still owe about $36,000 in deductibles, copays and getting nickel-n-dimed by a bunch of random Gotchas, or i could fly to India, get a surgery there that's at least as safe if not safer, and fly back all for about $12,000

the healthcare system in america is fucked because of government intervention in the first place HMOs ruined market competition for everybody when it comes to insurance and as for actual procedures the AMA has done a fantastic job of cartelization so that now they can ask any price they want and you'll pay it while simultaneously blaming the republican party (somehow) for such high prices
meanwhile what the democrats are trying to get right now is for even higher prices to be paid, both for prescription medicines and procedures, only not paid by the actual patient, but instead by the government instead aka single-payer aka the soviet socialist healthcare system aka rationing care

They want everyone to have the right to medical treatment. Republicans would be content with people dying in the streets, they want to move us backwards. They remind me a lot of Islamic finatics with a different religion.
