I guess you people are ignorant of the intersectionality of Christian and transgender history. Unlike homosexuality and cross-dressing that was never officially embraced by churches in any form, transgenderism and transsexualism has generally been as long as it wasn't for immoral purposes.
For example: sworn virgins were karyotypical females that lived as males. I knew an ex-nun that had a transgender (male to female) nun in her convent back 50 years ago. The Catholic Church and many mainline Protestant Churches up to Pope John I embraced sex changes in some cases.
The Catholic Church's official position on transsexualism is still classified as sub secretum (translated from Latin as: under secrecy — their equivalent of 'classified information'). The churches' ignored their own history to support the economic conservatism of the West in the 1980s highlighted by Reagan, Thatcher, et al and attempted to revise their own history at the turn of the millennium once queers took over trans activism.
