also I need shell access so I can run the letsencrypt script it won't let you get cert unless it can verify dns by checking the ip it's running on and I don't know enough python to disable that

every new ftp user I create will have a directory inside of my current user's /home so I doubt that will help

was gunpowder a bad thing? look at history, before gunpowder were thousands of years of close combat - atrocious, gut-rending, bloody combat. After gunpowder became a military standard, there were hundreds of years where wars were restricted to skirmishing (most of the time, anyways) until the late 19th century

i'm able to use sftp and get into home, but all ftp users including primary are forced into directories beneath home/html

I enabled shell access, I have full run of the filesystem but no sudo or su, and all the directories under /forums are owned by my primary account so fucked if I know why they don't show up in ftp

if you're creating an ftp user through godaddy, the folder they're assigned to has to already exist. you can use sftp or ssh to create that folder if it doesn't exist.
also, account names are unique across the server or across their entire pool??. there are some reserved names i've encountered. eg. "marks98" is taken.

i created an upload folder under an app's folder for people to submit pics. they could only see their assigned home folder.

I'm shelled, and ftp'd in, with the same user, the main user for my vps. The files are clearly there, if I copy something into that directory I can see it on the web, I think their ftp server just kind of sucks balls and isn't sending the file list correctly. Now that I can shell in I can use that instead, I'd assume if I have ssh I have sftp.

oh and I can't use letsencrypt without a dedicated, it absolutely requires sudo because the vps is missing a bunch of required packages, so there's that
