side of town. In Two Kinds, Amy Tan writes about a Chinese girl whose mother wants to compete with other Chinese families to see whose child is more successful. Amy.It is certain that, if somebody becomes weak and does not change the Self-expanded option, then he becomes Self-narrowed: he is anxious about the consequences of his act, afraid of its coming to light, and in general he feels bad. The main problem with Self-expansion called compunction is that – thanks to the function of human memory – it never ends. It fades with time but repeatedly returns, and can also exert effects that cause illness. If anxiety escalates, it can become permanent, and hinder attainment of mental balance. In “Crime and Punishment”, Dostoevsky described how sin can even lead to suicide, more or less genuinely but, above all, suggestively. And to this cultivated state our western world is fast approaching; but nature is still predominant, and there are those who regret that with the improvements of cultivation the sublimity of the wilderness should pass away: for those scenes of solitude from which the hand of nature has never been lifted, affect the mind with a more deep toned emotion than aught which the hand of man has touched. Amid them the consequent associations are of God the creator--they are his undefiled works, and the mind is cast into the contemplation of eternal things. We were asked to wash out hands and feet from a nearby well water. To our surprise, this meal was not an ordinary dinner else an extraordinary royal traditional feast.Since the above essay was written (early 1980s) there has been a strong revival of the 'free enterprise' theory under the slogan 'market forces'. Governments are deregulating and removing tariff barriers. Politicians describe these developments in optimistic language, as if they were good ideas they happened to have, but in fact the changes seem to be forced: no national government is now strong enough to stand against currency speculation, economies in formerly undeveloped countries are now strong enough to bargain their way through tariff barriers, shifts in demand have made the traditional products of many established economies (e.g. Australian wool) less saleable. Under these circumstances it seems no longer possible for the traditionally well-off countries to continue to protect their populations against competitors in other countries (the justice of this was always problematic). Regulations and taxation imposed by national governments are burdens that reduce a firm's competitiveness in international markets (e.g. if our firms cannot pollute but firms in other countries can, then our firms' products will be priced out of the international market). Taxation is like lead in a firm's saddle-bags, so the government's share of national income has to be reduced, government activities and services (e.g. to the handicapped, to the mentally ill) have to be cut back to lessen the burden and improve the competitiveness of our industry. Instead of being excluded by tariff barriers and other means, the 'third world' enters 'first world' societies in the form of unemployment and poverty. Politicians suggest that after some pain things will improve for everybody, but their optimism seems unfounded. Neither side in politics has any 'answers'; in fact both sides pursue essentially the same policies and use the same rhetoric.11.The quality of Rice?s academic life and the residential college system is heavily influenced by the unique life experiences and cultural traditions each student brings. What perspective do you feel that you will be able to share with others as a result of your own life experiences and background? Cite a personal experience to illustrate this. Most applicants are able to respond successfully in two to three pages. (Rice University)Your child is now a part of a close-knit community. His or her first community was that which you created within your home. It was then expanded to include the extended family, your place of worship, the school, and the town in which you live. When he or she joins the college community, that community wants a person who is committed to being a full member of it and who is dedicated to making it a better place. The primary reason for this, as I see it, is that students who take part in the life of the campus are happier and more fulfilled by the college experience than are those who sit in their rooms either playing computer games or watching television. Because they are happier, they tend to stay.Manaugh . Finally, I’m interested in simply how someone becomes a reconstructionist. It’s not a job that most people have even heard of!
