    Man I wouldn't bother with fpga stuff for what ultimately will amount to an emulator box, just stick an old PC powerful enough to run all the games you want off MAME and use an HDMI> analog video converter. Then you can hook up the controls to a standard x input or d input board.

    its not at all an emulator, if you think a pc emulating this stuff in software is the same as a piece of hardware that can be reconfigured, you don't understand what an fpga is

    I understand the difference, just don't really see the point because IMO emulators are accurate enough for me, especially for mainstream consoles like SNES, I've hooked up to the TV with the original hardware and emulation compared side by side and I literally couldn't tell the difference, plus you're already not using the original hardware with an fpga anyways.
