Any of you familiar with roguelikes such as Powder, and, of course, Rogue, but let's talk modern. When I was younger, i really dug jrpgs, partially because I was bad at games that revolved around reflexes and partly because the gameplay gave you the chance to relax and enjoy a more fleshed out story experience. But, after playing Shiren the Wanderer on the DS my life was changed forever. I can't play turn-based rpgs or strategy rpgs anymore, they're too slow.
Roguelikes are just fast pace enough and are usually difficult to the point that you're having to think your way out of fucking crazy situations. And on top of that, perma-death. BECAUSE LOSING IS FUN! For real, it is.
Relate to me your familiarity with the genre.

dungeon crawl stone soup is alright
cataclysm is good, it is a post zombie apocalypse sim where you can starve to death or get strung out on drugs and alcohol etc
my first experience was making a character and being attacked by a crazy npc bitch at the starting location, she used a sledgehammer to break both my arms and chased me down the road before suddenly exploding due to having a grenade on her belt go off and shrapnel pierced my leg and crippled me and burned me severely, i looted her and her inventory was full of drugs, guns, ammo and gold bars, she was also listening to an mp3 player and i would have taken everything but my guy was so fucked up that he couldnt pick up anything heavier than the mp3 player, so i took that and put it on and wandered around until i got eaten by wolves
