    Lost sucked.. so boring.
Long periods of inactivity, dragged out plots, and bland acting do not make a show more mysterious or something

The real life Hunter S Thompson was flailing all over the place

most of johnny's acting personas post-1997 are directly inspired by Hunter S Thompson. Just an FYI

The "Jack Sparrow" character is basically Hunter S Thompson set in colonial times

it was typical cliche TV acting. When real people are put into survival scenarios, they don't take deep breaths right before delivering some inspirational bullshit and whatever

yes yes and shakespeare was just based off of greek tragedy anyways and blah blah blah,
call it whatever you want, they didn't do a good job at it and from a neutral point of view (i wasn't caught up in the story, i was just casually watching it) it was cliche and wasn't fresh

it was just another television show with better cameras and film making equipment. With the script, they just re-hashed the trippy "Oooh what's going on here?" concept with films/shows like total recall, the truman show, the sixth sense, and the twilight zone combined with everyone's Survivor fetish at the time the show came out

It reminds me of shows like Niptuck which also suck and have some soap opera feel to them, but also have their innovative moments as well -- but the innovative moments don't outweigh the fact they're using the same cliche bullshit everyone else uses. There is no new direction being taken, just an appeal to a new generation that is still too unfamiliar with the last generation's same trippy survivalist garbage

hollywood basically thought to themselves "I wonder how long we can drag out a TV show with a mysterious premise before having to give away the 'twist' ending once viewer ratings start to drop in order to spice up the ratings for the finale"

i really wouldnt call it a "survival drama" especially after the first season

the only thing that would really fit with that category is that they're trying to find a way home

if Lost is cliche and sucky, what TV show would you consider good? most everything on TV is pure crap, so maybe Lost isn't excellent but it stands out (to me) because it's better than pretty much everything else

actually they insisted on ending it after 6 seasons while in production for season 2 so that they would know (roughly) what the plot would be ahead of time specifically so they wouldnt have to drag it out like that

they probably could have dragged it out another 2-4 years if they wanted to, ratings were good and it was the most talked about show on TV

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the show promoted right around the time the show Survivor was really big? I think it was even advertised during Survivor's commercial breaks

exactly, everything on TV sucks. I haven't even turned on my TV recently to know what's "good" at the moment. I occasionally will be stoned and downstairs in the kitchen making food, and turn on cable down there and watch adult swim which seems to be consistently 'alright'. Idk are you seriously asking me advice on what to watch? I say fuck TV and just watch movies. Commercial interuptions complicate things and the substance of the story is compromised by the network's need to leave "cliffhangers" and other such associated bullshit

    Lost debuted in 2004
Survivor was like the late 90s

i dont know if it was advertised during Survivor but I doubt it since Survivor was on CBS and Lost was on ABC
there might have been some crossover in the audiences due to the similar setting of a desert island but the similarity pretty much ends there

i watch a lot of movies too but I like TV shows because they suck you in more and you get more invested in the characters

yeah, most of them suck, most tv shows are reality TV and the ones that are actually scripted are usually shitty crime dramas or horrible sitcoms or whatever, but there are some good ones. In that regard, Lost is in a different league from most fictional serialized television shows, which is why there have been so many attempted copycats of Lost (like The Event and The River) all of which had boring characters and tried to be mysterious like Lost but totally failed to capture anyone's interest and got cancelled in the first season

I like scifi so I enjoy Star Trek, Stargate, etc. Most recently I finally watched Battlestar Galactica and it was overall an excellent series imo even if the ending was kind of botched (some people let bad endings ruin an entire series/movie for them)
