I enabled shell access, I have full run of the filesystem but no sudo or su, and all the directories under /forums are owned by my primary account so fucked if I know why they don't show up in ftp

of course they're not going to give su, but your ftp is fucked up. call them and get them to fix it. get a non-paki 2nd level tech support tech and you're golden.
also, can you use sftp?

i had to use ssh to import various mysql databases ive used because they'd time out from phpmyadmin.

this whole experience has convinced me to stick with debian, because apparently redhat blows knobs in production

I have used comodoSSL cert and openSSL which are tedious than letsencrypt which it does fast setup.

all things considered I paid $12 a year for my domain and a pretty decent cpanel hosting package, they're not that bad

Ugh, I pay 60 per year in digitalocean, but the good thing is I can install node.js since godaddy doesn't offer node.js

i pay something like 120 per year for my hosting which comes with one domain. all of my other domains are through something else which used to be 5 bucks per year per domain and included domain lock, and privacy, but now they've gone up and have gone to godaddy's model of charging for every feature, so i have to find something else.

I didn't even have mysql until a couple of weeks ago I bought the domain to host static images to post on the forum, it was $12 and it did the job perfectly, and then they upgraded me to a bunch of features I never even asked for. Not saying it's perfect, but it was p good for my purposes.
