    can you just sign up for basic training, while getting paid then just go back to life at the end of it?

    sort of, you can sign up for a boot camp, but the reserves is basically that, and you get military benefits for giving up 1 weekend a month (plus shopping at the PC and class 6 stores on base, duty free (( this means no taxes)))
