We've pumped millions of years' worth of naturally collected carbon back into the atmosphere in a matter of 150 years. Perhaps Plug Drugs should go to college and take an Environmental Science class so he can understand the natural carbon cycle, because it really is pretty obvious.

Don't you guys think we are getting to a point in the economy where we're just inventing jobs? There's no industry left, I mean there is, but who has a real job anymore? Are people still out there harvesting raw resources to make tradeable goods with? Not in our country; we're just a country of consumers and that's a problem. Economics 101: a healthy economy results with a country that has more exports than imports.. at least that's what my economics teacher told me.
What raw resource have we got to trade anymore? Foreign resources are cheaper. All we have is our technology (a false scarcity) and our big ass military. It's safe to say that the capitalistic thirst of the traditional American working man has all but dissipated. People these days want to wear brand name clothes, listen to music for its image, and sit and watch rich people on TV and feel special and unique and above everyone else.

all we know for certain about the CO2 level is that it currently exceeds the highest historical interglacial concentrations by about 33%
Today: 398ppm

Historically: 180-300ppm

Doesn't that only chart back <100,000 years?
Also, do you think the readings could be wrong or swayed by agenda? Like, could our means of measuring CO2 levels historically be off, such that modern day CO2 levels seem to be exploding off the chart compared to the CO2 level increases of the past, when really its just because our measurements are off?Last edited by Plug Drugs; 07-23-2013 at 05:13 PM.

Hmm well I don't know honestly, but purely from using logic, we could suspect that analyzing an ice core compared to our current atmosphere might be like apples and oranges, the environment of an ice core might be subject to variables we aren't even aware of yet.
And 400,000 years isn't that long really, I think our planet is resilient enough to just shake it off.

interesting... well, the only difference is the ice...
and we know from modern chemistry that when it comes to solids with thermodynamically-important imperfections, like ice, the molecules periodically (though rarely) liquefy and then immediately recrystallize, making the case that tiny amounts of CO2 could possibly dissolve from a gas mixture into a contact layer of water ice, and then slowly diffuse through the interior of the crystal lattice. however, the amount would be a tiny fraction of the CO2 concentration in trapped air. and if this was really happening, then the CO2 levels in the trapped air would decrease vs the increasing age of the sampled ice - but the relationship between sample age and CO2 concentration is almost perfectly harmonic.Last edited by blumpkin blownuts; 07-23-2013 at 06:05 PM.
