What about keyblades in the kingdom hearts universe, that can transcend into a Bankai from bleach. Instead of upgrading. So say in kingdom hearts 3 your keyblade simply transforms into a bankai shape instead of replacing it, and from there you can upgrade your bankai like devil may cry.
