I think that your percieved division between "dark" gods and "formal" gods is a false divide. Most modern interpretations of religions do not yield results or provide comfort or understanding because on the whole they are exogenous to most of the population, run byy authoritiative figures with a top down approach. whereas occultism is a lot more inward facing so each person who comes to it has more control and can start to look inside themselves for the answers that will help them. But thats just my opinion x
