It's on the metro menu which replaced the start menu, it's no harder or less intuitive than it was before and in fact may be more intuitive because you don't even need to click anything to make that menu come up
How many times am I going to have to prove you wrong before you admit you've never even seen windows 8 and you're pulling all of this straight out of your ass so you have something to soapbox about?

hmm i dicked around with it for a while, i was basing that off of videos i saw on it because i vowed to myself to never use Windows 8 again; although i might get it and just download the classic shell
The same applies though: casual users are only going to do what is immediately conveyable to them. If you put shit in random counter-intuitive places, most casual users are going to just do their best to live without using it, and only use shit like IE to check facebook, etc.. and never learn more about their computerLast edited by Plug Drugs; 07-02-2013 at 05:15 PM.

You can't buy respect, and Microsoft lost mine when they put ads in their OS interface trying to sell me shit

so in other words they'll be just like you, they won't learn anything that they can't do via clicking on the pretty pictures that are right in front of their face
how is this any different than what I've been saying throughout this whole conversation? I never said they weren't stupid and/or computer illiterate, I have said over and over again you are exactly as stupid and computer illiterate as they are and everything you're saying is reinforcing that

Like I said earlier, I can use DOS when I have to or want to

I'd believe that if you had any fucking clue how to use it.
Doesn't sound much different than
"I can use Windows 8 in desktop mode when I have to or want to"
And I have said this again and again: If you can agree that Windows 8 is a dumber interface than Windows 7, and can agree that using the GUI is going to distance people from knowing more about their computer, then Windows 8 is going to increase that gap and breed more GUI-dependent users

if getting to the control panel or command prompt is too complicated and counter-intuitive, a casual user is just going to live without it

Like you've been doing for years because you can't handle any task which isn't spoon fed to you

Marks says "I know the magic passwords, na na na-boo boo, you-u do-on't"
it'd be funny if Marks had a nightmare where he was in DOS but all the symbols of everything were in chinese and so was the keyboard, and someone was there going "whatsa matta?? too dependent on a GUI?"
Like I said earlier, give me a DOS manual and a dictionary and I can do anything in DOS that you can, granted it will take me longer to get in the groove, simply because you have more experience with it, but I could still catch up.

So exactly what you were saying about Windows 8 users until I called you on it

Not at all; Microsoft is stacking the cards against those users.
the CLI is language independent slick
First of all, there's more than one way to skin a cat. Second of all, if someone changed all the characters to random Chinese symbols, rearranged all the keys on the keyboard which would also be in chinese, then you'd be completely lost and you know it.
You have neither the inclination nor the ability to learn DOS, if you were the power user you like to pretend that you are you'd already know it. I'll bet you don't even know how to add a snap-in to the MMC.Last edited by Plug Drugs; 07-02-2013 at 06:05 PM.

There really isn't, there's a ton of shit that can only be done via DOS or powershell and if you don't know either of those things you've obviously never done them
you're a typical home user who knows how to do incredibly basic things. there's nothing wrong with that, but it does mean you should keep your fucking mouth shut when it comes to technical stuff and you have no place criticizing people who only know slightly less than you do.

I'm saying the semantics of the CLI itself could be different if they were designed differently.
you're a typical home user who knows how to do incredibly basic things. there's nothing wrong with that, but it does mean you should keep your fucking mouth shut when it comes to technical stuff and you have no place criticizing people who only know slightly less than you do.
Also, I am not criticizing those people beneath me, rather I am defending them; I want it to be as easy as possible for those people to be able to learn about computers so they do become smarter about computers - that can't happen if there's some leech stacking the cards against them.

I agree, as a basic home user who doesn't know shit there's no reason for you to ever touch the command line. You're in here posing as a power user, denouncing anyone who isn't as computer literate as you, anyone with that attitude should at least know how to use the fucking shell.
You've been using Windows for at least 7 years and you still have no fucking idea what you're doing, why do you hold everyone else to a higher standard than yourself?

You're about as good at Win 7 as an old woman who took the "PC 101" class at the local community college so if you're going to come in here and go full blowhard mode about computers I'm going to call you on it and I'm going to have fun doing it

There's no reason for me to ever touch the command line? Lol, it's saved me from countless viruses, I use it to be able to host games, blah blah blah.
I think the real reason you're so defensive is because you don't like feeling like your trade isn't special or unique.
You've been using Windows for at least 7 years and you still have no fucking idea what you're doing, why do you hold everyone else to a higher standard than yourself?

i'm going to learn DOS just to spite marks;
furthermore i'm going to show 20 people how to crash a server with DOS once i learn how, and tell them to show 20 people, until one day the server at where marks works crashes due to it and it'll be his fault

In 6 weeks plug drugs will make a thread about how he's a DOS expert now and talk for 6 paragraphs about how smart and special and important he is and when I push him on it he will eventually reveal that really he googled DOS and read the wikipedia entry and learned that dir is a popular command
